Cataract Surgery

A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens that lies between the iris and the pupil. Cataract surgery is performed to remove the clouded lens and replacing the lens with a permanent implant. This implant is known as an intraocular lens implant (IOL). Several IOL can be implanted and Dr. Gonzalez will personal offer the best implant to match your individual needs and life style. If your desire is to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses after surgery, Dr Gonzalez can select the appropriate lens for you. It is the most common surgery performed in the United States. The surgery is  performed on an outpatient basis.

Glaucoma Surgery

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in this country and Hispanics and African Americans are at increase risk of going blind if not diagnosed and treated in time. Glaucoma is a silent thief of sight, it has  no symptoms, that is why it is essential that you have your eye pressure measured by an eye doctor and your optic nerve evaluated to make sure you do not have this condition. Most patients with this condition can be successfully treated with eye drops however some patient will need surgery to lower the eye pressure. Dr Gonzalez performs all the latest  surgical and laser procedures to combat this potentially devastating treatable disease.

Laser Vision Correction / LASIK

Imagine having crystal clear vision without using glasses or contact lenses. Casimiro Gonzalez, M.D. uses the latest refractive surgery techniques to help patients achieve their best potential vision. Dr. Gonzalez offers no blade LASIK,  all laser LASIK  with Alcon WaveFront Guided  technology,

Laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is by far the most popular laser vision correction procedure available. The LASIK procedure is quick, rather painless, and has a relatively short recovery period. LASIK surgery typically provides excellent visual outcomes, particularly when performed by Dr Gonzalez, an experienced refractive surgeon.

On the day of the LASIK procedure, patients are given anesthetic eye drops before surgery. A Femtosecond laser  is used to create a flap in the patient’s cornea. The flap is gently folded back, and then the surgeon directs the laser to precisely vaporize a predetermined amount of corneal tissue. The flap is replaced, and healing begins almost immediately. Patient vision often improves noticeably the day after surgery, although it may take a few weeks for best results.

Pterygia surgery

Pterygia is a growth of the tissue covering the white portion of the eye, the  conjunctiva, over the cornea as a result of tissue damage from UV rays  exposure. This condition is not only cosmetically unappealing but  can affect vision by distorting the cornea causing astigmatism as well as redness and eye irritation. Dr Gonzalez uses a sutureless graft technique which reduces the recurrence rate.
